BRANFORD, Conn. – Maurice “Maury” Shindler, 92, died Jan. 19, 2006, at The Connecticut Hospice, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren. He was born Dec. 29, 1913, in Boston, Mass., a son of Jacob and Lena (Sandler) Shindler. Maury was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and moved to Bangor following his discharge. He was a publisher’s representative in northern New England. Maury was an avid golfer, having won the State of Maine Left Handed Golf Championship and was actively involved with the establishment of the Bangor Municipal Golf Course. He was a life master bridge player. Maury was a member of Congregation Beth Abraham, the Jewish War Veterans and the American Legion. He was a resident of Ellenton, Fla., for many years before moving to New Haven, Conn. during 2001. He was predeceased by his wife, Polly Shindler of Bangor; his brothers, Louis and Nathan “Toby” Shindler, both of Massachusetts; and by his dear friend, Joyce Daily of Ellenton, Fla. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Claire Shindler of Hamden, Conn.; daughter and son-in-law, Louise Shindler and Stephen Emery of Bangor; son, Raymond Shindler of Decatur, Ga.; four grandchildren, Peter and Polly Shindler of New Haven, Conn., Aaron Emery of Tucson, Ariz. and Polly Emery of Boston, Mass. A graveside service will be held noon Sunday, Jan. 22, at Beth Abraham Cemetery, Bangor. Memorial week will be observed 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Jan. 22, through Jan. 26 and 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Jan. 27, at 227 Clyde Rd., Bangor.
