ORONO – Mavis Rydquist Sarson Coupe, 70, died Oct. 5, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 3, 1935, in Ridgway, Pa., daughter of Theodore and Mabel Rydquist. Mavis was the mother of five sons and a foster parent to several more children. She raised her family in Greensburg, Pa., where she was the coordinator of Meals on Wheels. Several years after losing her first husband, J. Thomas Sarson, Mavis moved to Maine and married John D. Coupe. She then became the mother to three more children. She loved being with children and was a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in Bangor for many years. She was also a very active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Mavis was a fabulous cook and baker and will be remembered for wonderful treats like Swedish coffee bread and raspberry pie, but most especially for her tins of cookies we all loved to eat! She is survived by her brother, John Rydquist and wife, Pat, of Hudson, Ohio; a sister, Leah Coupe and husband, George, of Freeport, N.Y.; four sons, Dwight Alan Sarson and his wife, Dana, Craig Steven Sarson and his wife, Rita, Jeffrey David Sarson and his wife, Yvonne, and Matthew Brett Sarson and his wife, Denise; three stepchildren, Jeffrey Alan Coupe and his wife, Kate, Stephen Russell Coupe and his wife, Ann, and Cynthia Ellen Convery and her husband, Robert; grandchildren, Erik, Jessica, Danielle, Michelle, Hillary, Kendall, Gabriel, Sebastian, Matthew, Jack, Hannah, Jack, Ayla, Brent, Nicole, Matthew and Jessica; four great-grandchildren, Sam and Quenton, Max and Declan; and two grandsons-in-law, Joshua Turley and Joshua Merry; and 12 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, J. Thomas Sarson; and her second husband, John Donald Coupe; her son, Jerome Thomas Sarson. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Brookings-Smith, 72 Main St., Orono. A service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 540 Essex St., Bangor, with the Rev. Elaine Hewes, pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the church fellowship hall following the service Tuesday.
