BANGOR – Maxine B. Webb, 90, died July 13, 2004, at her home in Bangor. She was born June 28, 1914, in Bangor, the daughter of Ralph N. and Lottie Mae (Welch) Bicknell. She was a graduate of Bangor High School in 1930, where she was active in the YWCA, and also graduated from Beal College in 1932. Maxine was employed by Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co. prior to her marriage to Donald R. Webb on July 4, 1936. She was a Red Cross Volunteer for many years at the Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, and at the Red Cross Center in Bangor. Maxine was an active member and past chairwomen on Owl’s Head Co-operative Extension and Secretary of Knox-Lincoln County Co-Operative Extension. She was an active member and performer with the Bangor “Y Players” for 10 years and was an active member and treasurer of the Glenburn Senior Citizens “Good Time” Group. She was recognized by the EMMC Volunteers for hand knitted caps that she made for premature babies and for cancer patients at the hospital. Maxine enjoyed her church and was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Episcopal in Waterville for 20 years, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockland for 22 years, and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bangor since 1986. She was the LEM Coordinator at St. John’s Episcopal Church for many years. Until her illness, Maxine made cookies for the Salvation Army, danced, exercised weekly and called bingo at the Hammond Street Senior Citizens Center. She is survived by two sons, Ralph V. Webb of Cataumet, Mass., and Rodney C. Webb and wife, Thalia, of Newport; two granddaughters, Sherry Lynn Webb-Smith of Owosso, Mich., and Ivy Beccah Demos of Parsonsfield; four grandsons, Robert A. Webb Jr. of Riverview, Fla., Rodney (Jody) C. Webb Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., Donald R. Webb of Marstons Mills, Mass., and David R. Webb of Camden; four great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and two nephews. In addition to her husband, Donald, Maxine was predeceased by a son, Robert A. Webb; a sister, Dorrice (Stevens) Tipton; nephew, Richard E. Stephens; and brother, Austin R. Bicknell. A Memorial Requiem Mass will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 234 French St., Bangor, with the Rev. Kevin Holsapple, Rector, and the Venerable Thomas Benson, Archdeacon, presiding. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the undercroft of St. John’s Episcopal Church, following the service. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
