EAST MILLINOCKET – Marie B. MacDonald, 87, died peacefully in the comfort of her home on July 12, 2004. She was born May 2, 1917, in Millinocket, the daughter of the late William J. and Mary (Sutherland) Boddy. Marie was a graduate of Stearns High School in 1934, and Anna Jacques Hospital School of Nursing, Newburyport, Mass., in 1937. She married the love of her life, the late George (Doddy) MacDonald on June 15, 1938. They had been married for 64 years at the time of his death in 2002. Marie was a very special and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Marie, a registered nurse, resumed her nursing career in 1955, with the opening of the Millinocket Community Hospital. She accepted the position of district nurse for the town of East Millinocket in 1959 until her retirement in 1978. She was also active in the Stearns High School Alumni, The Sno-Rovers Snowmobile Club, and served as hostess for the band leader’s during the town’s 50th anniversary and subsequent summer homecoming balls. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She, along with her late husband, George, received the 1979 Chamber of Commerce award in recognition of their time and effort to make the town a better place in which to live. Marie is survived by one son, George “Ricky” MacDonald and his wife, Patricia, of Enfield, Conn.; four daughters, Linda and her husband, Kendall G. Hunnewell, of Hackettstown, N.J., Penelope “Penny” and her husband, John M. McGill, of Tupper Lake, N.Y., Harriet and her husband, George Eddy, of Brownville, Laurie and her husband, Stephen Washington, of Waterville; 16 grandchildren, Kendall, Scott, Thomas, and Laurie Hunnewell, Rod, Stacy, and Scott MacDonald, Joanna, Mark, Christopher, and Michael McGill; John, Robert, and William Boyle, Kristin and Ryan MacDonald; two sisters, Hellas and her husband, John Brunette, and Harriett and her husband, Allister Embleton; a brother, Eugene and his wife, Nadine. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Frank Wheeler; her devoted care giver of two years, Krystyna Stala; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, William and Edwin Boddy. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2004, at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St, Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church in East Millinocket. Interment will immediately follow at the East Millinocket cemetery.
