EASTPORT – Elmira Esther (Kaenzig) Rogers, 86, died July 12, 2004, in Eastport. She was born Dec. 30, 1917, in Egg Harbor City, N.J., a daughter of the late William and Adeline (Hanselmann) Kaenzig. She grew up and lived in Cologne, N.J., retiring to Jonesport in 1977. In 1944, “Myra” married Roland E. Rogers Jr., who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by a sister, Ruth (Kaenzig) Butscher. She was a graduate of Glassboro State Teacher’s College and taught for 37 years in Galloway Township, N.J. Elmira was a member of the Moravian Church in Egg Harbor City, N.J., and the Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church in Jonesport. She was active in many church and community organizations, including the OES. Surviving family are her brother, W.W. Kaenzig of Cologne, N.J.; her son, Roland E. “Skip” Rogers III and his wife, Irene, of Dennysville; her daughter, Candace “Candy” E. Andrews and her husband, Dale, of Derry, N.H.; grandchildren, Erik I. Rogers, Katherine N. Andrews and Christopher N. Andrews. Family and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Flagg Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 16, at the Greenwood Cemetery. All of Elmira’s friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Eastport Memorial Nursing Home, 23 Boynton St., Eastport, ME 04631, where Elmira received loving care in the final years of her life.
