WATERVILLE and BRIDGEWATER – Maxine K. Grass died Feb. 18, 2008, with Bob and Darlene at her side. She spent her last day on Earth surrounded by her family, Bob, Darlene, Leisa, Stacey, Nick and Zachary in spirit. During the last five months she had been lovingly cared for by the staff of Mount Saint Joseph Holistic Community, Waterville. Maxine was born Jan. 8, 1919, in E Plantation, the fifth child of Roland and Winona (Kinney) Kingsbury. She graduated from Bridgewater Classical Academy in 1938 and later married Reuben Grass. Together they successfully operated a small potato farm and sawmill on the Montieth Road, Bridgewater. Maxine and Reuben spent many wonderful times hunting, fishing and camping with different friends throughout their 41-year marriage. They especially enjoyed hunting and/or fishing trips with Al and Mickey Kingsbury, Fred and Charlene Ward, Albert and Joan Allen, Louie and Pauline Boyce and Earl and Boyce Bradbury. She spent most of her life in Bridgewater and left in 1986 to be closer to Bob and Darlene. In her later years, she truly enjoyed playing cards, bowling and playing Bingo with Charlotte, Sara, Vivian, Camilla and Ruth. She was always eager to engage anyone in a spirited political discussion. She is survived by her son, Reuben “Bob” and his wife, Darlene, of Oakland; grandchildren, Leisa and her husband, Charles Collins, and their children, Aidan, Chase and Jack, of Portland, Zachary of Los Angeles, Stacey and her husband, Mark Power and their children, Sabrina, Cooper and Brianna, of New Gloucester and Nicholas and his wife, Julee and their children, Cameron and Madison. She is also survived by one sister, Doris Sands of Newburgh. She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben in 1983; her parents; her sisters, Thelma Brooker and Vera Collins; and brothers, Barney, Lewis ‘Pat’ and Donald Kingsbury. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Corner Cemetery, Bridgewater.
