CARMEL – Maynard L. Dunton, 63, affectionately known as “Papa” died Wednesday May 10, 2006, at his Carmel home following a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 17, 1942, in Carmel, the son of William A. and Florice E. (Partridge) Dunton. He was educated in schools of Carmel and Mansfield, Conn. In his early years he was employed at Striar’s Woolen Mill in Orono and Viner’s Shoe in Bangor. For more than 21 years he worked as a truck driver for M.C.M. Construction and following this he worked at Hewes Brothers for several years. Maynard married Delma (Vicnaire) in Carmel on Nov. 21, 1964. Maynard liked the outdoors especially while hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed stock car racing. “Papa” always looked forward to the Friends and Family Reunion that he hosted at his home every year. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Delma Dunton of Carmel; one son and his wife, Willie and Cheryl Dunton of Carmel; two daughters and their husbands, Florice and Marc Willey of Carmel, Tammy and Jeff Hill of Etna; a God daughter, Carla Miller of Levant; one brother and his wife, Maurice and Sherry Dunton of Brooksville Fla.; two sisters, Jean McCray of Bangor, Alice Gardner of Carmel; one sister-in-law, Marice Dunton of Carmel. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, John, Jessica, Marc, Melinda, Willie Lee, Cassandra, Jeffrey, Alex; five great-grandchildren, Kendrah, Henry, Makayla, Kobe, Justin Tyme; a special aunt, Phyllis Partridge of Carmel; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be missed by his constant companion, his dog, “Cocoa.” He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister, James, Reginald, David, and Stella. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 34 High St., Newport. Graveside services will be conducted 4 p.m. Monday, May 15, at Highland Cemetery, Carmel, with the Rev. Burt Williams officiating. A celebration of life will be included during the Family and Friends Reunion July 15, 2006, at the family home in Carmel.
