WINTERPORT – Melba Frances (Rayno) Spaulding passed away peacefully Nov. 20, 2006, at her home. Melba was born in Salisbury, N.H., the daughter of Trifla and Eva (Greeley) Rayno. Melba graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 and from Boston College in 1957. She was a member of the religious order, the Grey Nuns of Montreal, for 23 years. She married Robert Spaulding in 1977 and moved to Winterport, where together they worked as market gardeners. She was a member of Loyal Rebekah Lodge No. 92, Monroe, for 17 years, serving as their musician for most of that time. Melba was past district deputy president for the Rebekah Assembly of Maine, and served as the musician for the Rebekah State Assembly in 1997 and 1998. She was an ardent supporter of the Salvation Army, where she volunteered much of her time. Melba was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Spaulding in 2003. She is survived by a nephew and several cousins. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Winterport, with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be at Forefather’s Cemetery, Chelmsford, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bangor Chapter of the Salvation Army, 65 South Park St., Bangor, ME 04401 or to the Rebekah Lodge No. 92, care of Constance Clements, 146 Clements Road, Monroe, ME 04951.
