MECHANIC FALLS – Melvin Jerome Field Jr., 77, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at the home of his daughter, Carolee, with his loving family by his side. Mr. Field was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Bradley, to Melvin J. Field Sr. and Myra (Bissell) Field. He married the former Helen Goodine. He had worked for many years as a custodian for the University of Maine – Orono. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Old Town and Minot, and the Eddington Salmon Club. He enjoyed bowling and fly-fishing. He is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Helen; sister, Marion Field of Ocean Park; children, Carolee Nash and husband, Allen, of Mechanic Falls, Jeanine Chapman and husband, Frank, of Oxford, Timothy Field and wife, Christine, of Pembroke, N.H., Annette Bachelder and husband, Trent, of West Farmington, Holly Davis of Dallas, Ga., and Amy Stokes and husband, John, of Heth, Ark.; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, cousins; and friend, Dot Martin of Old Town. Family and friends are invited to attend services 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
