BELFAST – Merlene T. Hahn, 75, passed away Sept. 6, 2007, at Waldo County General Hospital. She was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Northport, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Tolman) Knight. She worked at Belfast Manufacturing for many years, then ran a local daycare from her home for 40 years and was on her third generation of children. Merlene enjoyed her children and her grandchildren, especially her youngest, Dylan. She liked sewing, knitting and reading. She also enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Frye Mountain. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Donald Hahn Sr.; a sister, Vonnie Bates of Connecticut; and sons-in-law, John Fraser and Jon Ross. Merlene is survived by her children, Gwendolyn Fraser of Northport, Shirley Murphy and husband, Michael, of Belfast, Bonnie Cushman and husband, Donald, of Prospect, Jeanna Ross of Brunswick, Donald Hahn Jr. and wife, Lynne, of Belfast; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Young and husband, George, of Rockland, Lucille Fuller of Bradenton, Fla., Ralph Knight and wife, Charlotte, of Jefferson, Beverly Taylor and husband, Frank, of Port Clyde, Donna Bowen and husband, Carold, of Swanville, Clayton Knight and wife, Ruthie, of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Laurie, Elizabeth, Jason, Stanley, Carrie, Brian, Jack, Jessica, Jenny and Dylan; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews; also special friends, Elizabeth Jackson and Harold Bowen. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Grove Cemetery, Belfast. Those who wish may make donations in Merlene’s memory to Katelyn Ross Leukemia Fund, 84 Merrymeeting Road, Brunswick, ME 04011. Katelyn is Merlene’s 2-year-old great-granddaughter who was just diagnosed with leukemia. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
