BAILEYVILLE – Merritt Lloyd McCray Sr., 65, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at a Calais hospital. Merritt was born April 16, 1940, in Baileyville, the son of the late Edward A. and Elizabeth (Merritt) McCray. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a truck driver until 1962. On Aug. 11, 1965, he married Susan Dickinson. Merritt was employed with Pratt & Whitney until 1972, at which time he returned to Baileyville. He worked as a digester operator for Georgia Pacific for more than 25 years, retiring in 1997. Merritt was a member of Peoples United Methodist Church in Baileyville, U.P.I.U. Local No. 27 and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Freda McCray; and a brother, Charles McCray. Surviving are his wife of more than 40 years, Susan McCray; three children, Merritt McCray Jr. of Nashua, N.H., Timothy McCray and Sarah Farley and her daughter, Haley, of Calais, and Elizabeth Ann McCray of Baileyville; three sisters, Patsy Hill and husband, Earl, of Alexander, Barbara Hickock and husband, Tom, of Matthews, N.C. and Jill Hamilton and husband, Lyle, of Princeton; four brothers, Edward McCray and wife, Nancy, of Meriden, Conn., Albin McCray and wife, Gladys, of Baileyville, Chester McCray and wife, Shirley, of Baileyville and Cecil Moreside and wife, Irene, of Calais; four grandchildren, Ashlie, Haylie, Marisa and Emma; two aunts, Roselyn Newman of Upper Mills, N.B. and Jean Daigle of St. Stephen, N.B.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
