ORRINGTON – Merry C. Briggs, 65, died Feb. 2, 2004, at a Bangor hospital, following a long illness. She was born on Christmas day in 1938, in Orrington, the daughter of Fred and Victoria (Pyzynski) Torrey. She was noted for her avid love of automobile racing and was seen weekly at some of the local tracks. She enjoyed hunting, camping and being outdoors. For 46 years, she was married to her devoted husband, Richard W. Briggs. They spent their honeymoon deer hunting in the Allagash wilderness. Surviving are her husband, Richard W. Briggs; a son, Donald Briggs and his wife, Wendy, of Dedham; a daughter, Loretta and her husband, David Davis, of Fairfield, Pa.; seven grandchildren, David, Jessica, Scott, Heather, Zachary, Nathan and Mary Anne; one sister, Rosalind and her husband, Gus Frey, of Orrington. Merry was predeceased by two sisters, Geraldine and Katherine (Dolly) Gray; and one brother, Fred E. Torrey Jr. She made many friends at the Dialysis Unit at the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. A special thanks to all of the staff at EMMC who cared for her for five years. At her request, no funeral services will be held. Interment will be held in the spring at the Marston Cemetery in Orrington.
