BELFAST – Mervin Eric Sobey, 66, of Belfast passed away on Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Pittsfield on Nov. 14, 1936, the son of Eric and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Sobey. Mervin grew up on a farm on the Burnham Road in Pittsfield and graduated from MCI in Pittsfield in 1955. He drove a truck for 48 years, his life was being behind the wheel of a big rig. He drove for Eastern Fine Paper in Brewer, Maplewood Poultry and Grain Co. in Belfast, Dead River in Belfast, GAC Chemical of Searsport and M.J. Construction of Frankfort. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, snowmobiling, fishing and camping. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two sons, Michael M. and Scott W. Sobey Sr. Mervin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lorraine (Turner) Sobey; a daughter, Elena Bradford and her husband, Randy; two brothers, Edson Sobey and his wife, Jenny, of South Portland, and Myron Sobey and his wife, Georgette, of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Scott W. Sobey II, Melissa Sobey, Chelsea E. Bradford, and Hayden M. Bradford; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering on Monday, Oct. 13, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. A graveside funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Pittsfield Cemetery, Pittsfield. Arrangements are under the care of the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
