CHERRYFIELD – Mikey Brooks, 49, beloved son, brother and friend, left this world Dec. 27, 2005, at his home in Cherryfield, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Chrohn’s Disease. After “knocking” the fish in his life, he has gone to find the ultimate fishing hole. Mikey was born Jan. 12, 1956, in Milbridge, the son of Boyd Sr. of Cherryfield and the late Mary (Perry) Brooks. Mikey grew up on the banks of the Narraguagus River where salmon trembled at the sound of his cast and other fishermen watched his skill with envy. Each season brought with it for Mikey a true passion for the outdoors. Spring – brought fishing with ‘Dad’ and ‘the boys’ and catching eels; summer – salmon and trout fishing and catching lobsters; fall – deer hunting and bear baiting; winter – ice fishing and trapping. In all seasons, Mikey and ‘Dad’ spent time cruising the barrens. Mikey enjoyed a rich life entertaining family and friends across America and leaves a trail of memories to all who ever met him. He is survived by his best friend ‘Dad’; sisters, Ruthy Brooks, Penny Wakefield and husband, Russell; brothers, Randy and wife, Nora, Danny and wife, Robin and Boyd Jr.; dedicated friends (cousins) Kenny Brooks and Kevin Brooks and wife, Alisa; and numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends. Mikey was predeceased by ‘Ma’; and baby son, Jason. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Intervale Cemetery, Cherryfield.
