PRESQUE ISLE – Michael Trainer, 53, went to be with his Lord on Good Friday, March 25, 2005, surrounded by his family and special pets. Mike has now received perfect healing and is at peace. Mike was born Dec. 31, 1951, in Bangor, the son of John R. and Betty Desjardins Trainer. He often reminded those closest to him that only when our work on earth is accomplished are we free to be released to a higher purpose. He believed God’s plan for his life was flawless. After graduating from Bangor High School in 1970, he served his country as a navy seal in Vietnam. Upon his return, he was professional chef for many years, traveling from the Maine coast to Florida to the Midwest. In 1979, he graduated from Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute with a degree in consumer electronics and operated Mike’s Radio and TV in Presque Isle. His sincere concern for helping people brought him in touch with Maine Independent Living Service, which he served for several years. Mike’s interests included snow sledding, motorcycling, sports, and photography. During the past three years he enjoyed his job and co-workers at Graves Shop ‘n Save. A true gentleman, Mike loved and was loved well. The essence of who he was reflected in how he treated people and how he met numerous challenges that came his way. He took great pride in his family and his home. He and Mary enjoyed the times of working together, entertaining, and caring for and playing with their numerous animals. He was honored to serve his church family as sound technician at the United Baptist Church in Mapleton. During the camping season Mike valued time spent in work and fellowship at Baptist Park. Surviving Mike are his wife of 28 years, Mary Ellen Williamson Trainer of Presque Isle; his daughter, Hillary Trainer, and Matthew Allen of Easton; his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Heather Trainer and his grandchildren, Ryan and Taylor Webster, all of Presque Isle; four brothers and their spouses, James and Julie Trainer of Olympia, Wash., Carl and Laurie Trainer of Gotha, Fla., Michael and Ellen Pannella of Ottowa, Ill., and Jim and Karen Pannella of Annapolis, Md., three sisters and their spouses, LeeAnn and Jim Shawley of Stetson, Lisa and Scott Nelson of Natick, Mass. and Teresa and Gino Mailhot of Manchester, N.H.; a sister-in-law, Jane Lyons of Montica, Calif., and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Special people predeceasing Mike were his parents, his second dad, Joseph Pannella; and his brothers, Joe Pannella and John Trainer. Mike enjoyed the blessing of close friends Phillip Ouellette, Ronald Dow, Mike and Judy Seaman, Tom and Barbara Borja, Ken Phelps, Bud, June, Brian and Ryan Horr, Peggy Grant, Richard and Marcia Lord, Darrell and Bernice Cullins, Mike Ireland, Dana Zacardi, and Al and Norma Coffey. During the past three months Mike and Mary were thankful for the nurturing and care provided by the prayers and actions of friends and family, as well as the staff of Eastern Maine Medical Center and Ross Manor in Bangor. Friends may call from 3:30-4:30 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., in Presque Isle. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at the United Baptist Church in Mapleton, the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Phelps officiating. Everyone is invited to a reception following at the Trainer home, 38 Academy St., Presque Isle. Interment will be at Estes Park Cemetery in Easton in June. Those who wish may remember Mike with a donation to the audio/visual ministry of the United Baptist Church in Mapleton.
