MAXFIELD – Mildred Clapp Bunker went to be with her Lord April 7, 2006, at the Lincoln hospital. She was born Jan. 16, 1912, in Maxfield, the daughter of Walter McQuinn and Mary Weymouth McQuinn. She was the adopted daughter of Hazen and Hattie Weymouth Clapp of Maxfield. Wife of the late Samuel R. Bunker, she moved to Bangor in 1957, and moved back to Maxfield in 1973, where she lived in her mobile home until 1995, when she moved in with her daughter-in-law, Ivolene B. Clapp. Mildred resided at the Phillips-Strickland House in Bangor for a while before going to the Cummings Health Care Facility in Howland. Mildred enjoyed working and helping people and loved her family deeply. She was a member of the Ohio Street Church that her late husband built. She was a member of the Howland Baptist Church of Howland, a member of the LaGrange Extension for several years, for 29 years was a member of the Maxfield, Medford, Howland Christmas Club and was a life member of Machias Chapter No. 83 Order of the Eastern Star. She had two sons, Walter K. Clapp and Robert K. Leighton, both deceased in 1995 and 1993. Predeceased by her adopted parents, Hazen and Hattie Clapp; her brother, Forrest N. Clapp Sr.; her sister-in-law, Grace Clapp. She is survived by her daughters-in law, Doris Leighton of Bangor and Ivolene B. Clapp of Maxfield; her grandchildren are Kenneth and Paulette Clapp, Linda C. Stone, Cathy and Sewell Pingree, Gary Leighton (deceased), his wife, Debbie Leighton, Darrell Leighton, Wayne and Lana Leighton; great-grandchildren, Major Matthew and Kimberly Clapp, Amy and David Carson, Karen and Alfred Halloran, Adam Stone, Amanda Pingree, Sterling Pingree, Alison Leighton, Andrew Leighton, Victoria Leighton; great-great-grandchildren, Alicia Halloran, Logan Clapp, Mitchell Clapp, Emma Marie Carson (deceased) and Olivia Carson; nephews and wives, Forrest and Betty Clapp Jr. of Virginia, Vaughn Clapp and Judy Robinson of Brownville, Roger and Nora Lee Clapp of Skowhegan and their children, Jack Clapp, Joy Clapp, John and Sheila Clapp, Ross Clapp, Ashley Clapp; her step family, Ivan Bunker (deceased), his wife, Loraine Bunker, Beryl Graham, husband, Hazen Graham (deceased) Fern and Herbert Harvey, Norma Nixon (deceased), Dorothy and Edward Bucklin, Merton and Pricilla Bunker, Alton Bunker (deceased), Jean and Tommy Martin, stepgrandchildren, Michael, Samuel, Freddy, Joan Bunker, Ricky Bunker, Steven Bunker and Vickie Rabon, James Graham, Sylvia and Lee Hudson, Stephen Graham, Rodney Graham, Debbie and Roderick Fisher, Linda and Jack Oliver, Herbert Harvey Jr., Marilania and Don Martel, Pamela Harvey, Billy Bunker, Dovane Bunker, Sheryl, Michel, Jeffery, Susan, Connie Bucklin; and several step-great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Howland Baptist Church, Pastor Alan Porter officiating. Refreshments and a time to visit with family and friends will follow the service in the church’s fellowship hall. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, later this spring.
