INDIAN ISLAND – Louis Kenneth Paul, 79, died April 8, 2006, with his family by his side, at Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born March 19, 1927, on Indian Island, a son of Louis Gabriel and Katherine (Pennewaite) Paul. He was a World War II Veteran having served with the U.S. Navy. He served as president of the Penobscot Indian Corp. He served on the Indian Island School Board for 25 years and was instrumental in securing funding for building the new Indian Island School. He was an avid trout fisherman and enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants. He is survived by his wife, Madeline Mary (Stevens) Paul; 13 children, Shirley, Erlene, Ken, Kathy, Steven, Edward, Michael, Donald, Ronald, Lisa, Sharon, Jan and Jean; 21 grandchildren, Lynn, Alan, Maria, Stephanie, Kim, Jillian, Eric, Amanda, Charlene, Tom, Eleanor, Gina, Andrea, Josh, Jake, Joel, Nathan, Kaitlin, Gabriel, Jasmine and Kaleb; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Francis; and an aunt, Madeline Francis. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Mary Madeline; a grandson, Richard Julian Paul; and a sister, Merlene Paul Couturier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Indian Island, with the Rev. Wilfred Labbe, celebrant. Interment with military honors will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Tribal Cemetery, Indian Island. Arrangements by Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
