JEFFERSON – Lloyd Hewett Jr., 86, a resident of the Gardiner Road and former long time resident of Somerville, went to be with his Savior April 8, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his devoted family. He was born June 8, 1919, in Somerville, a son of Lloyd F. and Jane Nutting Hewett and lived there until moving to Jefferson 19 years ago. He attended grade school in Somerville and attended Cony High School, graduating in 1937. Lloyd served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from February 1943- February 1946. He served in the 466th Amphibian Battalion and received the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Star. He worked close to 50 years as a contractor/builder, building and remodeling homes in the surrounding area. Lloyd was well known for his work ethic. He was a very honest and hardworking man, giving an honest day’s work along with a quality job. Many of the men who worked for him went on to become carpenters themselves. Lloyd began attending South Somerville Baptist Church from the time he was born and was a member of this church until his passing. He loved and prayed for his church family. He also was a member of the Lion’s Club, the VFW and the American Legion. He served his community on the school committee and as a selectman when he resided in Somerville. Lloyd was a loving husband and devoted father and Grampa, who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Lloyd was predeceased by his son, Dennie; and by his parents, Lloyd F. Hewett Sr. and Jane N. Hewett. Survivors include his precious wife of 63 years, Marge Hewett of Jefferson; daughters, Jean Clark and husband, Bill, of Windsor, Ann Martin and husband, Charles, of Jefferson, Beth Gurney and husband, John, of Augusta; a son, Peter Hewett and wife, Diane, of Hermon; a brother, Don Hewett and his wife, Shirley, of Somerville; nine grandchildren; five and one half great-grandchildren and a large extended family. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at the funeral home with the Rev. John Dancer officiating. Interment will be in West Washington Cemetery, Washington, with military honors. In memory of Lloyd, contributions may be made to Healthreach Hospice 150 Dresden Ave., Gardiner, ME 04345, whose wonderful care of him will always be remembered.
