BELFAST – Mildred F. (Twombly) Ladd, 76, went to join the Lord, Nov. 7, 2005, at a Belfast hospital. She was born May 27, 1929, in Monroe, the daughter of Charles and Beulah (Nickerson) Twombly. A hard worker, Mildred was self-employed as a housekeeper for many years, owned and operated Millie’s Diner in Northport for many years, sold Avon for more than 15 years, and worked on poultry farms as she raised her family. She was well known for her famous pies, enjoyed gardening and being in the outdoors. She refinished furniture with her late husband, Clay, for many years and also enjoyed caning. She volunteered at the Belfast Soup Kitchen, Meals For Me, as well as cooked for area service organizations. She was a 50-year member of the Monroe Rebekah Lodge. Mildred is survived by seven children, Eleanor Leeman and husband, Lee, of Milo, William Hammond and wife, Mary, of Searsport, Charles Hammond and wife, Patricia, of Frankfort, Christine Kellett of Belfast, Faye Curtis and husband, Raymond, of Belfast, Cindy Lenard and husband, Frank, of Hampden, Joyce McKellar of Tallahassee, Fla.; seven stepchildren, Ann Marie Casey of Skowhegan, Catherine (Ladd) Cyrway and husband, Wayne, of Benton, David Ladd and wife, Cathleen, of Wauseon, Ohio, Clayton Ladd of Northport, Bruce Ladd and wife, Vicki, of Lincolnville, Amy Boyce and husband, Ken, of Buxton, Pamela Butterfield and husband, Victor, of Jay; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, brother, Alton Twombly and wife, Helen, of Lincoln; sister, Lucille McLead of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews. Mildred was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Clayton A. Ladd in 2002. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Pilgrim’s Home Cemetery, Monroe, with Pastor Cliff Gall officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Stroke Association 343 Gorham Rd., South Portland, ME 04106. Arrangements by Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport.
