BAILEYVILLE – Mildred Jean Spearin, 74, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at her home. Jean was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Dumbarton, N.B., daughter of the late A. Irving and Ozema (Martin) Gass. She married Keith Dexter Spearin Dec. 22, 1956. Jean was employed as an English teacher for Woodland High School in Baileyville. Upon her retirement, she served on the school board for Woodland High School and was employed as a proof reader for the Calais Advertiser. Jean was a lifelong member of the National Honor Society and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and traveling with family. She was predeceased by her husband, Keith; a son, Michael Spearin; a sister, Phyllis Woodside; and two brothers, John and Donald Gass. Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Spearin of New Gloucester; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home with Pastor Bernie Hammond officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Woodland Cemetery.
