PRESQUE ISLE and CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Mildred M. Marko died May 26, 2007, in Presque Isle. She was born June 19, 1914, in Fort Collins, Colo., to Joseph Henry and Rosella Agnes (Murray) Michaud. She married Stephen John Marko, July 24, 1934. The family moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1948. In 2001, she moved to Presque Isle. Mildred had unwavering faith in God and loved her family and friends. She was resourceful, resilient and courageous. Those who knew her will miss her smile, quick wit and concern for others. She raised large gardens and loved iris and lilacs. She was an avid reader and enjoyed baking pies. She treasured trips she and Steve made together. A skilled seamstress, she made wedding dresses for her daughters and rag dolls for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At age 80 she hand-wrote 50 pages of family information and memories. Until age 84, Mildred drove old folks to medical appointments. She celebrated her 89th birthday sailing on a tall ship off the coast of Maine. When asked to name the best thing about life at 90, she replied “All the love I’ve known.” The worst? “Trying to behave!” Her husband, Steve; sons, Gerald and Richard, as well as five sisters, two brothers and a great-granddaughter predeceased her. She is survived by sister, Nora Hehn; brother, Paul of Fort Collins, Colo.; her children and their spouses, Robert and Linda Marko of Cheyenne, Wyo., Gene and Mary Ann Marko of Sioux Falls, S.D., Rosemary Delo of Cheyenne, Wyo., Kay and Nick Reybrock of Springfield, Va., Elaine and Lynn Briggs of Presque Isle, Marian and David Whited of Vashon Island, Wash., and Christine and Bob Shinmori of Douglas, Wyo.; daughter-in-law, Connie Marko of Blue Springs, Mo.; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mildred was deeply appreciative of the special people who blessed her later life, including many kind helpers at Aroostook Agency on Aging, Leisure Village and especially, the loving staff at Presque Isle Nursing Home. Funeral Mass and burial to be in Cheyenne, Wyo. She asks those wishing to remember her to plant a flower, donate a book to your library or nursing home, hug a child or pray.
