BANGOR – Mildred R. Rolnick, 92, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at her home. She was born March 15, 1916, in Bangor, the eldest daughter of Jacob and Miriam Rolnick, who were among the earliest Jewish settlers in the city. Their generosity to all those who came after them was legendary, as was his sterling reputation among the farmers in the region whose livestock supplied Jacob Rolnick’s meat market. Milly lived her life with the same generous spirit and pride in her native city. She was a woman of valor. We greatly mourn her passing. Milly is survived by four sisters, Ronnie “Ida” Arbetter, Evalyn Hoffman, Charlotte Schwab and Nina Meyer; 11 nephews and nieces, and nine great-nephews and great-nieces. She also leaves a host of friends, neighbors, relatives and admirers, who basked in her warm interest and keen mind. She was predeceased by a sister, Lillian Kobritz. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Jewish Chapel, 118 Center St., Bangor. Committal will be held at Beth Abraham Cemetery, Mount Hope Avenue, Bangor, after the service. Friends, relatives and neighbors are welcome to share memories of her life at Oriental Jade at the Bangor Mall, off Stillwater Avenue. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. www.BrookingsSmith.com
