HOLYOKE, Mass. – Milton R. Goodkowsky, born Sept. 24, 1924, son of the late Keith and Leah (Abram) Goodkowsky, died peacefully Nov. 29, 2007. Milton was born in Blue Hill and had lived in South Brewer, graduating from Brewer High School in 1942. Milton lived with his loving wife of 58 years, Lynn, and their family had resided in Holyoke, Mass., since 1965. Milton was a veteran of World War II. Milton was inducted into the MetLife Hall of Fame, while enjoying a lifelong career with the company. In addition to his devotion to his wife and family, Milton was active in numerous volunteer and civic organizations, including service as a Shriner, for the Red Cross and as a member of Holyoke Taxpayers Association. He was a proud member of the Holyoke Rotary Club and he maintained perfect attendance. In 1985 the Rotary recognized him as a Paul Harris Fellow. Milton was a benevolent, charitable man with a desire to enhance global understanding through work with Rotary International Exchanges. He is survived by his children, Cheryl, Lisa, Kimberly, Eric and Scott; as well as his grandchildren, Bryan, Gregory, Alexander, Eric and Sarah. Milton is also survived by sisters, Paula Hennessy of Kennebunk-port and Vicki Spearing of Ban-gor; several cherished nieces and nephews; a close cousin, Martin Abram of California; a sister-in-law, Vickie Greeley of Bangor; and brother-in-law, Norman Ceaser of Scarborough. Milton was predeceased by a brother, Karl Goodkowsky of Columbia; and a niece, Bonnie Spearing of Bangor. A celebration of Milton’s life was held at Messier Funeral Home, Holyoke, Mass. He will be laid to rest 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor, with a military honor guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holyoke Rotary Club Foundation, P.O. Box 1396, Holyoke, MA 01041. Donations will be used in support of Peace Scholars and International Exchanges.
