WEST YARMOUTH – Minnie Gertrude (Wheeler) Hurd, 100, beloved mother and devoted grandmother and wife of the late Arthur B. Hurd, died Friday, April 6, 2007. She was born Dec. 16, 1906, in Easton, the daughter of the late Selden and Gertrude (Bridgham) Wheeler. She graduated from East Corinth Academy, East Corinth, Class of 1924 and from Aroostook State Normal School, Presque Isle. Minnie taught school for several years; she also worked for the Bangor Daily News, as a proofreader. She retired in 1972 from the University of Maine in Orono, as a proofreader. She was a member of the Brewer Senior Citizens Club and Essex Street Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Robert G. and his wife, Carolyn Hurd, of West Yarmouth, Mass., six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Gerald A. Hurd of Wellesley Hills, Mass. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 9, at Morris & O’Connor Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Drive, South Yarmouth, Mass. Interment will be in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
