MADAWASKA – Miss Marietta Martin, 89, passed away peacefully July 30, 2007, at a Fort Kent health care facility. She was born Sept. 23, 1917, the daughter of Simeon and Annie (Sylvain) Martin. She graduated from Notre Dame de la Sagesse in 1935 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Aroostook State Teachers College, in 1963. She also completed advanced studies at a number of colleges here in Maine, one of which was the University of Maine – Presque Isle. Marietta taught in New York, Caribou, and Madawaska a total of 38 years, retiring in 1978. Her retirement was filled with enjoying family, gardening, painting, volunteering, corresponding with her many friends and fond memories of having taught the children of Madawaska. She is predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Lewis. She is survived by her brother, Ludger Martin of Madawaska and Springvale; her nieces and nephews in Maine, Washington state, and Canada. The time and date of funeral services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Miss Martin’s memory can be made to the St. Thomas Aquinas memorial fund. Arrangements are in the care of Daigle Funeral Home, Madawaska.
