SULLIVAN – Montford L. “Monte” Somers, 76, died March 19, 2007, surrounded by the love of his four boys, family and friends, at his residence. He was born May 7, 1930, in Calais, the son of John J. and Faye (Johnston) Somers. Monte served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. postal service in Bangor for more than 20 years. He loved working in his woodshop, making special things for his family and friends. He was an avid hunter, loved fishing, playing horseshoes and enjoyed being outdoors. He was a member of the Brewer VFW. He is survived by his sons, Michael and wife, Vicki, of Hampden, Stephen and wife, Virginia, of Ellsworth Falls, Charles and wife, Sunny, of Holden, and Monte of Gardiner; brothers, John Somers III and wife, Angela, of Sullivan, and Gary and wife, Ida, of Ellsworth; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Rose Passantino of Sullivan. He was predeceased by siblings, Katherine Hofer and B. Dale Somers. Honoring Monte’s wishes, services will be private.
