BELMONT, Mass. – Morris A. Slep, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at the Belmont Manor Nursing Home in Belmont, Mass. Born in Vladimir Volynskiy, Poland, Morris immigrated to the United States at the age of 13. He lived in New York City as a teenager but spent most of his adult life in Bangor. He owned several grocery and meat markets, and was the founder and co-owner of the Bangor Beef Co. He later worked for the University of Maine before retiring to St. Petersburg, Fla., where he worked part-time supervising a kosher meals-on-wheels food service. In 2000, he moved to Belmont, Mass. Morris served in the U.S. Army and was part of the initial occupying forces in Japan at the conclusion of World War II. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dena; son, Gary Slep and his wife, Virginia, of Wayland, Mass.; son, David Slep of Bangor; daughter, Toby Hartman of San Diego, Calif. and daughter, Sharon Feinberg and her husband, Paul, of Arlington, Mass; grandchildren, Brian Slep and his wife, Deanna, of Charlotte, N.C. Kevin Slep of San Francisco, Calif., Lauren and Rachel Feinberg of Arlington, Mass.; sister, Shirley Kirby and her husband, Philip, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother, Marvin Slep and his wife, Iris, of New York and Florida. Funeral services 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 20004, at the Beth El Temple Center, 2 Concord St., Belmont, Mass. Burial at the Beit Olam Cemetery, Wayland, Mass.
