HARBOR – Muriel Lenore Mitchell, 88, died June 25, 2008, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born May 31, 1920, in Boston, the daughter of Everett V. and Muriel L. (Freeman) Jenkins. Muriel was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated from Boston University with a master’s degree. She taught English at Bay Path College, Longmeadow, Mass., and retired as head of the English Department. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baking, crafts, gardening and was very involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Brett Mitchell and wife, Regina; grandchildren, John Mitchell and wife, Eleanor, and Theresa Matthews and husband, Corey; great-grandchildren, Jake and Ryan Mitchell, Bella Galarza and Mitchell Matthews; brother, Charles Jenkins; and numerous family and close friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, John F. Mitchell. Calling hours will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, June 30, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where a funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 1.
