MURIEL (SOPER) CRONIN BANGOR – Muriel (Soper) Cronin, 94, wife of the late Edwin A. Cronin, died Oct. 31, 2003, at a local hospital. She was born Oct. 20, 1909, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Rodney P. and Elizabeth (Milligan) Soper. Muriel was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and St. John’s Woman’s Council. She attended Bar Harbor Public Schools until 1921, when the family moved to Bangor, where she had resided ever since. She graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1927 and from Beal Business College and was employed for many years in a local dental office. She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth M. Russell of Bangor; and one son, Ronald E. Cronin and his wife, Karen, of Atkinson, N.H.; five grandchildren, Thomas Russell and his wife, Susan, of Bangor, and Dana Russell of Hampden, Kenneth Cronin and his wife, Rose, of Buxton, Pamela Beckey and her husband, John, of Chatham, N.J., and Jennifer Lapham and her husband, Eric, of Newbury, Mass.; three step-grandsons, Todd, Matthew and Michael Handwork; six great-grandchildren, Ryan and Matthew Russell, Amber and Keely Cronin and Andrew and Thomas Lapham. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one Brother, G. Edwin Soper; three sisters, Natalie, Laura and Faye. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor of St. John’s Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments following the services Monday at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
