CLEARWATER, Fla. – Nathan C. Hebberd, 92, passed away peacefully June 9, 2008, in the presence of his loving wife of 67 years, Grace. Nate was born March 6, 1916, in Bradford, to Harold C. and Myrtle Ingraham Hebberd. He lived and grew up in Dexter. He graduated from high school in Dexter and Husson College, Bangor, with a business degree. He entered the Maine Army National Guard in 1936, as an enlisted infantry soldier. He entered World War II as a non-commissioned officer and received a battlefield promotion to finish the war as a commissioned officer. He fought in the Pacific in the 43 Infantry Division and specifically, the 103 Infantry Regiment. After the war, he returned to Maine to live and raise his family. He continued to serve in the Maine Army National Guard for many years, with increasing responsibilities, eventually serving full-time and retiring as the state logistics officer, as a colonel in 1976. Nate and Grace started commuting between Maine and Florida in 1977, eventually moving full-time to Clearwater, Fla., in 1992, to enjoy new fri-ends, the activities at Hillcrest and the sunshine. They were very active in their Hillcrest community enjoying shuffling, running the small “Garage Sale” shop with his friends and serving as the first president of the homeowners association. Nate and Grace have two children, their son, Nate Jr., who died as a child; and their daughter, Dawn Hebberd Murati. Dawn is married to George Murati and they live in St. Augustine, Fla. In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by two grandsons, James Murati of Titusville, Fla., and Nathan “Andy” Murati of Austin, Texas. He was very proud of them and lavished them with love. Andy is married to Courtney Schoolcraft Murati. He was absolutely thrilled when in September 2006, his great-granddaughter, Elyssa Grace Murati, was born to Andy and Courtney. The family celebrated Nate and Grace’s 67th wedding anniversary, Dec. 21, 2007, in Clear-water, Fla., with their entire family present. Nate was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Nate will be cremated and buried in the family plot at Corinthian Cemetery, East Corinth. Services will be conducted at a later date. Donations in Nate’s name may be made to your local Hospice. He will be missed by all but never forgotten. Rest in peace.
