LUBEC and AUBURN – Nathaniel “Sam” F. Kelley, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at a Lewiston health-care facility. He was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Trescott, the son of Howard and Cynthia (Owens) Kelley. He was a graduate of Portland Junior College. He then served in the U.S. Navy and was a combat veteran during World War II. He worked as a cabinet maker and carpenter in numerous cities throughout the U.S. He belonged to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for over 50 years. Along with his wife, Arlene, he was very active as a member of the West Lubec Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Lubec American Legion Stuart-Green Post No. 65, VFW Parkinson-Vose No. 3315, Washington Masonic Lodge No. 37 AF & AM, Lubec Royal Arch Chapter No. 76, a Noble of Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor, and member of the Washington County and Schoodic Shrine Clubs, and a charter member of the Lubec Lions Club. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, traveling, and playing cribbage. He is survived by his long time companion, Marjorie Plummer and her children, Kendall Plummer and his wife, Linda, Pamela and her husband, James LaRouche, James Plummer and Thomas Plummer; many nieces and nephews in Maine, Massachusetts, and Ohio. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Arlene (Ramsdell) Kelley; three brothers, Vincent, Sherman and Leroy; three sisters, Marguerite, Beulah and Alice. Visiting hours will be held 1 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the West Lubec Methodist Church with Pastor Dale Hupp officiating. Burial will follow at the Corey Cemetery in Lubec. Those wishing to make donations in his memory may do so to the charity of one’s choice.
