COOPER – Nellie J. Day, 92, died Sept. 9, 2004, at a Calais healthcare facility. She was born in Casco, Dec. 19, 1911, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Jordan) Small. Nellie was the past president and secretary of the Cooper Extension, school board member of Union 107, Golden Sheaf member of Cathance Grange No. 510, Pomona State and National Grange, past president of Sherman Bros. Post No. 3 American Legion Auxiliary of Calais, past historian and sgt. of arms of Washington County Council, Past Ceres of Cathance Grange, organizing all suppers for many years. She was a ballot clerk for state and national elections for more than 50 years. She loved to cook, crochet, and make crafts. She also enjoyed gardening and was an avid walker. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip in 1992; and a daughter, Vi Dineen in 1998; four brothers, two sisters, and a special nephew, Ted Spencer Jr. Surviving are two sons, Willis and Justin Day; two daughters, Arline and her husband, Ralph Flood, all of Cooper, Louise and her husband, Granville Lee, of Meddybemps, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, Calais. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dana Kadey officiating. Burial will follow in the West Ridge Cemetery, Cooper. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Cathance Grange No. 510, 233 Cooper Highway, Cooper, ME 04657.
