BUCKSPORT and FORT KENT – Norma T. (Mountain) Brown, 79, peacefully went home to be with the Lord and her loving husband, Warren, Nov. 12, 2004. She fought a brief and graceful battle with cancer. She succumbed to her broken heart after just losing her beloved Warren in August. Norma was born May 15, 1925, in Parkman, to Theodore L. and Helen M. (Greeley) Mountain. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1942, and later trained as a secretary under the National Youth Administration Program. She was employed a number of years as a secretary in Dexter and Fort Kent, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Fort Kent and Corinna. She was a former member of the Methodist Church in Newport, where she was active in fund raising and mission work. She was a past president of the Methodist Commission on Missions. After making Fort Kent her permanent residence in 1991, Norma became a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church. She was blessed with a “Gift of Giving” and enjoyed preparing and delivering home cooked meals to the sick and shut-ins. She spent many hours quilting, knitting, and working on other arts and crafts. She had a passion for cooking and loved to share her baked goods. Norma loved nature and enjoyed watching the deer, bear and moose she so frequently saw from the comfort of her log home on Charette Hill in Fort Kent. During her earlier years, she spent many summers with her husband and children at their cottage on the shore of Center Pond in Sangerville. Norma also always looked forward to partridge hunting in the Estcourt region of Northern Maine, fishing for trout in the North Shore area of the St. Lawrence River in Canada, and tenting of the Gaspe Peninsula during the local lobster season. Norma was a loving and devoted mother, wife, and grandmother. Her love for Jesus and her family filled her heart and was the driving force in her life. Norma’s presence on this Earth had an impact on many and she will be greatly missed. Norma was predeceased by her devoted husband of 55 years, Warren I. Brown, in August of 2004; her father, Theodore L. Mountain in 1965; her mother, Helen M. (Greeley) Mountain in 1995; her oldest daughter, Barbara L. Brown in 2003; and an aunt, Iona Meservey. Norma is survived by a brother, Theodore Mountain and his wife, Jean, of Charleston; a son, Robert T. Brown and his wife, Dorothy, of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Linda L. LeMmon and her husband, Gerald, of Orland, and Patricia A. Hernandez and her husband, Luis, of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Lauhon of Orrington, Jillian Merrill of Orrington, Teresa Turner of Mobile, Ala., Tammy Roper of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Natasha Whiteford of Sarasota, Fla.; 13 great-grandchildren, Ashely, Braeden, Jordan, Dominic, Brianna, Krystal, Jessica, Porche, William, Erica, Mercedes, Cedric II, and Desiree; an aunt, Thelma Cookson of Guilford; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St. Bucksport, where a Celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Duane Stiles, Pastor Burton Lowry, and Pastor Ken Davenport officiating. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow the service at the Bucksport Church of God. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Norma’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
