SWANS ISLAND – Norman Burns, 87, died Nov. 12, 2004, at an Ellsworth healthcare facility. He was born March 14, 1917, on Swans Island, the son of Charlie and Jeanie (Martin) Burns. Norman worked as a lobster fisherman. During the war, he was leadman for boat designs at Portland Shipyard. He also worked as a finished carpenter. Norman was well known for his dancing. He was also the plumbing inspector for Swans Island. He is survived by his wife, Harriet (Leslie) Burns; one son, Norman K. Burns and wife, Nancy, of Swans Island; two daughters, Pat LeMoine and husband, Gillie, of Swans Island and Christy Conrad and husband, Bruce, of Long Valley, N.J.; one brother, Russell Burns of Ellsworth; three sisters, Mary Staples and husband, Wesley of Swans Island, Helene Billings and Charlene Carter, both of Stonington; 10 grandchildren, Averill West, Shawn LeMoine, Lucus LeMoine, Luke, Katie, Michael, Kristen, Alysia, Zoe and Zachary Conrad; and two great-grandchildren, James West and Logan LeMoine. Friends are invited to call 9-11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at the Atlantic Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held at noon with the Rev. Paul Joy and the Rev. Ken Dutille officiating. Interment will be at RoseHill Cemetery, Atlantic. Contributions in Norman’s memory may be made to the Swans Island Fire Department, care of Danny Barnes, Swan’s Island, ME 04685.
