NORMAN K. PERKINS SHERMAN STATION – Norman K. Perkins, 93, died Dec. 23, 2003, at his home. He was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Sherman Mills, the oldest child of George and Nellie (Woodbridge) Perkins. He attended school in Sherman Mills, and graduated with honors from Sherman High where he excelled as a pole vaulter and baseball catcher. After high school he enjoyed interstate trucking and worked on the family farm. He married Elizabeth Wood on Feb. 4, 1939, and continued dairy and potato farming until 1963. He developed a logging contracting business with Arnold Porter of Patten in 1961. With the resulting partnership, Perkins and Porter experienced much success until Norman retired in 1980, at the age of 70. Norman’s life was filled with activity as a player/manager for the town baseball team, longtime school board member, and officer of the Rockabema Snowrangers Snowmobile Club. He was a 64-year member of the Molunkus Lodge No. 165, AF & AM of Sherman, and a 54-year member of the Anah Shriners where he was an active member of the Northern Penobscot Shrine Club. His friends and family will attest to his love of ice fishing on the lakes in northern Maine and camping at the Lamoine State Park. He also enjoyed traveling to Brazil, Monte Carlo, Hawaii, Aruba, Mexico and Las Vegas. Norman is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth of Sherman Station; his sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Nancy of Patten, George and Julie of Benton; daughter, Linda of Glenburn; grandchildren, Richard Goodenough of Elliot, Randall Goodenough of Woodstock, Ga., Steven Perkins of Harbor City, Calif., Michael Perkins of Jacksonville, Fla., Susan Smith of Ooltewah, Tenn., Scott Perkins and Julie Wilson of Virginia Beach, Va., Lisa Noonan of Orrington, Chris Noonan of Glenburn, and Anita Ward of Waterville; great-grandchildren, Bryant and Turner Goodenough, Aubrey and Garrett Smith, Spencer Emerton and Brandon Ward; and his devoted Welsh Corgi, Randy. Norman was predeceased by his brother, Paul; sister, Audrey; his beloved daughter, Marion; and his Welsh Corgi, Lobo. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls with Masonic Funeral services being held at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Chandler officiating. Spring interment will be in the Patten Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O.
