WALDOBORO – Norris D. Braley passed to his eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, following an ongoing struggle with cardiac illness at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born Oct. 22, 1934, in Mapleton, a son of Edith Akeley and Floyd Herbert Braley. He attended the local schools there, graduated from Mapleton High School in 1952, and received a diploma from the University of Maine, at Orono. He was employed for more than 30 years by the USDA Soil & Water Conservation Service, serving in offices at Presque Isle, Belfast, Houlton, Rockland and Waldoboro. Following an early retirement, Norris pursued independent business ventures which included success as an Amway direct distributor, where he affected many lives, including his own. He later established Braley Real Estate in Waldoboro. Norris enjoyed family time, traveling, home projects and meeting new people. He was an active member of his church and closely followed and supported the pursuits of his children and grandchildren. Norris married his wife on Dec. 14, 1954. He is survived by Janet (Buck) Braley, his loving wife and companion of 49 years, as well as three sons and their wives, Graydon and Anne Braley of Chichester, N.H., Glendon and Anne Braley of Mapleton, Griffith and Joy Braley of Damariscotta; a daughter, Gayla and her husband, Alan Dever, of Waldoboro; He is also survived by 16 grandchildren each of them were very special to him and he cherished each moment he spent with them. They include Amber Braley of Farmington, Amy Fenlason, Alexander and Nicholas Braley, all of Chichester, N.H., Isaac, Ingrid, Ethan, and Grace Braley, all of Mapleton, Sarah, Jacob, Chrissie, Alex, and John Braley, all of Damariscotta, Lindsey, Cassidy, and Benjamin Dever, all of Waldoboro. Norris also leaves his father, Floyd Braley of Fort Kent; brother, Earlan and his wife, Virginia Braley, of Liberty Lake, Wash.; sisters, Nancy and her husband, Cohen Renfroe, of Leesburg, Fla., Necia and husband, Sherman Daigle, of Fort Kent, Judy Wade of McGraw, N.Y. He was predeceased by his mother, Edith; an infant granddaughter, Miranda Hope Dever; brother-in-law, Robert Wade. He will be fondly remembered by Janet’s siblings, Maxwell and Judy Buck, Marge and John Seiler, Kathleen and Philip Lucas, and Linda Buck Hubbard, sister-in-law and former wife of the late E. Merlyn Buck. The family will hold calling hours 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Hall Funeral Home, Main Street, Waldoboro from. A service to celebrate the life of Norris Braley will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Broad Bay Congregational Church, next to Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro. A gathering will follow at the First Baptist Church of Waldoboro on Route 1. In addition, a memorial service will take place 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Mapleton United Methodist Church in Mapleton. Interment will be at South Side in Mapleton in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Waldoboro Building Fund, P.O. Box 324, Waldoboro 04572 or to the CICU Educational Fund, 22 Bramhall St., Portland, ME 04102, Attn. Cathy Palleschi. The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate and loving efforts of the many gifted and talented professional caregivers who assisted Norris and his family in his struggle, including the staff of Waldoboro Family Medicine, Kno-Wal-Lin Home Health Care and the cardiac team at Maine Medical Center. Arrangements are under the care of Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro.
