DEER ISLE – Olive Margaret Conary Rice, passed away peacefully Dec. 4, 2004, at home. She was born Sept. 19, 1918, in Deer Isle, the daughter of Frank B. Conary Sr. and Vesta M. Eaton Conary. She was a lifelong educator who loved teaching. She was a graduate of Deer Isle schools and New England School of Theology. She received her BS in Education from Western State Normal School (U.S.M.) at Gorham; her Masters from Boston University and a certificate of advanced education in secondary school studies from the University of Maine at Orono. She taught in schools at Gorham, Old Orchard, Deer Isle, Stonington, and Bucksport. She was a lifelong member of the Advent Christian Church of Sunshine, Deer Isle, where she served as clerk and was a WH&FM participant. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and very active in the Maine Retired Teacher’s Association. She is survived by three children, Marshall L. Rice Jr. and his wife, Janet, William B. Rice Sr., and his wife, Ruth, all of Deer Isle and Elaine Taggart of Skaneateles, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Bradford Rice and his wife, Leslie, of Stonington, Jonathan Rice and his fianc?e, Jamie Kingman of Portland, William Rice Jr. and Preston Rice of Deer Isle, Catherine Taggart of Skaneateles, N.Y, Chase Taggart and Price Taggart of Boston, Mass.; five great-grandchildren, Bryant and Elizabeth Rice of Deer Isle, Tyson, Peyton and Mercades Rice of Stonington; her former husband, Marshall Rice Sr. of Deer Isle; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Conary of Friendship; an uncle, Sheldon Conary of Florida and Deer Isle; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Frank Conary Jr. of Friendship and Herbert Conary of Deer Isle. A service of celebration and remembrance of her life will be held in the summer of 2005. At her request, donations may be made in her memory to the Advent Christian Church in Deer Isle or to a charity of one’s choice.
