ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. and PRESQUE ISLE – Parker F. Coffin, 85, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at a Zephyrhills hospital. He was born July 30, 1918, in Ashland, the son of Alfred C. and Katherine (Hayward) Coffin. He attended Ashland schools, graduating from Ashland High School. He was a graduate of Bliss Electrical in Washington, D.C., with an Associate degree in electrical engineering. He began working for Maine Public Service Co. in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the U.S. and England. Upon discharge he returned to work for Maine Public. He was a dedicated employee retiring in 1983 as a district manager. He belonged to several electrical industry organizations and had articles published in national electrical industry magazines. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie Orcutt, in 1978. He married Evelyn Tobin in 1979. He was a 50-year member of Trinity Lodge No. 130 AF & AM, Lunar Chapter No. 126 OES, Presque Isle Rotary Club, past member of P.I. Congregational Church and member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Wesley Chapel, Fla. He loved the outdoors and was happiest working on his flower and vegetable gardens or tending his trees. He enjoyed nature, watching birds, taming chipmunks, brook fishing and partridge hunting. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Zephyrhills, Fla., a daughter, Beth Emery and her husband, Chuck, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a son, Peter O. Coffin and his wife, Mary, of Presque Isle; a stepdaughter, Barbara Whilborg and her husband, Jim, of Oak Harbor, Wash.; a stepson, Darrell Tobin and his wife, Lorna, of Mapleton; three grandchildren, Peter B. Coffin of Presque Isle, Jill Cotta and her husband, Shannon, of Damariscotta, and Rachael Whilborg of Washington. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Frank Coffin; and two sisters, Frances Brewer and Martha Nicholson. There will be a memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Grant Memorial Methodist Church in Presque Isle, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Blackstone officiating.
