DEER ISLE – Paul R. Sewall, 53, died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at a Blue Hill hospital after a courageous battle with a brain tumor. He was born April 18, 1952, in Blue Hill, the son of Reginald L. and Teresa E. (Beatrice) Sewall. Paul grew up in Stonington, and was educated in Stonington schools. He grew up fishing with his father, and developed a lifelong love of the ocean and lobster fishing. Paul earned a captain’s license through the U.S. Coast Guard, which he used to captain the Finest Kind, a lobstering boat which took paying passengers. For several years, Paul worked as first mate on the sailing schooners Rachel and Ebeneezer out of Key West for one season, and then on the Harvey Gamage. While serving on the Harvey Gamage, he met Corinne Pelletier, the boat’s chef, whom he became engaged to and married on April 30, 1988. Following the birth of their daughter, Lexi Nicholson Sewall in 1993, Paul and Corinne returned to Deer Isle, where Paul “returned to his roots” and operated his own lobster boat, the Franny Ellen, until the time of his illness. In addition to his wife and daughter of Deer Isle, Paul is survived by two sisters, Nancy Snow and her husband, Edgar, of Brooksville, and Renee Sewall of Stonington; an aunt, Lucia Betts of Portland; and uncle, Jerome Beatrice and his wife, Rebecca, of Deer Isle; and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, and an aunt, Genevieve Shepard. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, at the Howard’s Hill Cemetery, Little Deer Isle. A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Paul may be sent to the Zone C Lobster Hatchery Project, care of Penobscot East Resource Center, P.O. Box 27, Stonington, ME 04681. Arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Stonington.
