BANGOR – Paul Woodworth Higgins, 92, died Aug. 6, 2007, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Bangor, the son of George Loring Higgins and Amy Elizabeth (Woodworth) Higgins. Paul married his high school sweetheart, L. Jacqueline “Jackie” Bullard, and they have been married 68 years. Paul was very active in sports during his school years. He spent the majority of his working life at the family-owned grocery business, Arthur Chapin Co. After the company closed, Paul served as the Penobscot County Civil Defense director. Paul and Jackie were members of the Penobscot Country Club and Saturday Nighters. Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman every season until this spring. He was a lifetime member of the Penobscot County Conservation Association and a founding member of the Veazie Salmon Club. He was also a Mason and a member of the Anah Temple of the Shrine. In addition to his wife, Jackie, he is survived by his son, Paul “Woody” Higgins Jr., and his wife, Jo Ann; his daughter, Sheila Lynne, and her husband, Paul, all of Bangor; grandchildren Paul Higgins III and his wife, Stephanie, Matthew Higgins, Lynna Higgins, and Scott Libby; a special great-grandson, Hunter Higgins; and brothers, George “Bud” Higgins Jr., and Philip Higgins. Family and friends are invited to share memories of Paul, 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Penobscot County Conservation Association, 570 North Main St., Brewer.
