PORTLAND – Pauline F. Turner passed away Feb. 17, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Manor, Portland after a long illness. She was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Boston, Mass., the youngest of nine children of Israel and Nellie (Ward) Blackwood. Pauline attended schools in Boston and graduated from Girl’s Memorial High School in Roxbury, Class of 1937. During World War II Pauline worked as a stitcher, sewing uniforms for the war effort, but for most of her life she worked as a loving homemaker, wife and mother. On April 18, 1941, Pauline married Joseph Turner and they made their home in Boston and vacationed at her family homestead in Pembroke. In 1978, they retired to Pembroke, but enjoyed winter trips to Florida for many years. Her brothers, George, Wallace and Clarence; and her sisters, Mildred, Sybil, Anna and Muriel predeceased Pauline. She is survived by her loving husband, Joe of Pembroke; a daughter, Maureen; and son-in-law, Harry Brown of Gorham; her beloved grandchildren, Christopher of Olean, N.Y., Jason, Sarah and Emily, all of Gorham; and her sister, Berlah Littlefield of West Gardner; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to all of the staff for the dignified, loving care that Pauline and the family received throughout the time that she was at St. Joseph’s Manor. Visiting hours will be held from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 299 Main St., Gorham. Interment will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Topsham, ME 04086 or to the American Diabetes Association, 169 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101, in Mrs. Turner’s memory.
