LINCOLNVILLE – Pauline (Packard) Davis, 89, a longtime resident of High Street, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Tallpines, Belfast. Born Jan. 28, 1918, in Searsmont, she was the daughter of Raymond G. and Ruth (Plaisted) Packard. She attended schools in Lincolnville and was a 1936 graduate of Camden High School. Mrs. Davis had worked summers in her earlier years as a cook at the Beach Inn Restaurant, Lincolnville Beach. She also worked as a caretaker and cook for the McLaughlin family on Moody Mountain for almost 50 years. She will be most remembered through her 40 plus years of employment at the Lincolnville School, where she cooked school lunches and drove a school bus. Mrs. Davis remembered what each student liked to eat and would see that it was available for them. She also enjoyed cooking special snacks and meals for teachers. One of her former students often commented that he would never have eaten if Mrs. Davis had not prepared his peanut butter and jelly sandwich each day for him. Mrs. Davis was a member of the United Christian Church, Lincolnville Center. She loved her family and enjoyed special friendships with many close friends. A very unselfish person, Mrs. Davis was known for lending a hand or doing something kind for other people. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, crocheting, and cooking. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her special friend, Herbert Brown. During hunting season, they took several trips each week to the North Woods to watch the moose and deer. The family would like to acknowledge the loving and compassionate care given to Mrs. Davis at Tallpines during her three and one half-year stay. Surviving are her three daughters, Peggy Fuller and her husband, Milon, of Abbot, Ginger Small and her husband, George, of Verona Island, and Mary Lou Roberts and her husband, Arthur, of Greenville; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins; and very special people, whom she thought of as her children, Lyse Pike and her husband, Tom and Ian McLaughlin. She was predeceased by two sons, Joseph P. Davis Jr. and Charles E. Davis; a sister, Priscilla Esancy; and her very special companion, Herbert Brown. A spring graveside service will be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the Lincolnville Volunteer Fire Department, 209 Main St., Lincolnville, ME 04849. Arrangements are with Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden.
