BANGOR and ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – Pauline “Polly” Noyes Saba, 89, passed away Nov. 1, 2005, at the Hernando Pasco Hospice in Dade City, Fla. after a brief illness. She was born Oct. 26, 1916, in Topsfield, the first child of Leonard and Alta (Coffin) Noyes, and lived in Lee, for nearly 50 years before moving to Bangor in 1965. She graduated from Lee Academy in 1933 and attended the Maine School of Commerce (now Husson College) in Bangor. She earned her bachelors degree from Husson College in 1960. She was a business education teacher at Lee Academy for several years before accepting a position at Husson College in 1965, as Dean of Women and instructor in the Business Education Department. Upon retiring from Husson in 1978, she spent summers in Bangor and on the family farm in Lee and winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. She was an active member of the Altrusa International Club of Bangor for more than 38 years, and a communicant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bangor and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Zephyrhills. She will be fondly remembered as “The Donut Lady” for all of the home made donuts she distributed continually for many years to family, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans, baby bonnets for local area hospitals, and hats and mittens for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved flowers and could often be found working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was predeceased by an infant grandson, Nathan Saba, of Lee in 1974; and her husband of 62 years, John in 2000. She is survived by her two sons, Leonard and his wife, Patricia, of Lee, and William and his wife, Linda, of Peoria, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Wendy Dunbar and her husband, Eric, of Lincoln, Michelle Booth and her husband, Steve, of Austin, Texas and Will Saba and his wife, Sonia, of Tustin, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren, Ashton of Lincoln, Sydney and Zachary of Austin, Texas, and Jonathan and Adam of Tustin, Calif.; her sister, Irene LaBrie of Worcester, Mass.; and her brother, Russell Noyes and his wife, Avis, of Lee also survive her. She also leaves nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. She was always easily recognized by her beautiful white hair. In honoring her wishes, there will be no public service. Donations in her memory may be made to the Saba Family Scholarship, at Lee Academy, Lee, ME 04455. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lee at a later date.
