CHESTERTOWN, N.Y. and CARIBOU – Perry S. Whitmore, 83, husband of Mrs. Madeline E. Whitmore, passed away, Tuesday morning, March 2, 2004 at a Glens Falls, N.Y., hospital following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 18, 1920, at Caribou, the son of Percy J. and Ethel (Dean) Whitmore. Perry attended Green Ridge, Caribou and Presque Isle schools and was married to Madeline E. Shaw on Oct. 24, 1940. He was a farmer in the local area before becoming a certified welder and mechanic and was also skilled in the electrical field. He had been employed by Lockwood Graders, Presque Isle, as a shop manager for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the former Green Ridge Grange, Caribou and attended Baptist churches in both Caribou and Fort Fairfield. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitmore was predeceased by two brothers, William and Harold Whitmore; and one sister, Clara Cheney. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Madeline E. (Shaw) Whitmore of Chestertown, N.Y.; one son, Larry J. Whitmore of Livermore; one daughter, Mrs. Jean Norris and her husband, Rev. Robert Norris, of Chestertown, N.Y.; two sisters, Hazel Todd of New Haven, Conn., Millicent “Mae” Johndro of Fort Fairfield; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 20 nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Robert Norris officiating. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, later in the spring.
