HAMPDEN and WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – Wilbur Howard Emery, 94, passed away Feb. 24, 2004, at an Orlando, Fla., hospital. He was born Dec. 23, 1909, in Hampden, the son of Frederick S. and Essie (Eisner) Emery. Wilbur lived all his life in Hampden, and the last 30 years spent the winters in Winter Springs, Fla. He was a well-known Caterpillar mechanic having started at his home and later retiring from Arnold Machinery after many years. Wilbur was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and loved camping and traveling with family and friends. He belonged to Mystic Lodge No. 65 A.F. & A.M. of Hampden, Anah Temple Shire of Bangor, and was a life member of the Hampden Historical Society. Wilbur is survived by a daughter, Janet E. Bouchard and her husband, John, of South Portland; two sons, Fred H. Emery and his wife, Bobbi Jean, and Robert C. Emery of Hampden; one sister, Faustina (Emery) Chamberlain and her husband, Melvin, of West Baldwin; granddaughter, Bobbi Ann Bouchard; grandson, Michael Wilbur Emery; great-grandson, Joshua John Robert Sweeney; six stepchildren, Gladys and Bill Davis, Sadie and Rosaire Devost, Rella and James Neal, Reginald and Doreen Martin, Bernard and Gerrie Martin, Romeo and Sherri Martin; many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and one very special friend, Doris White. He was predeceased by his first wife, Velma Spencer Emery; and second wife, Yvonne Martin Emery; two sisters, Mavis and Trenetta; two brothers, Alvin and Charles; a half-sister, Hazel Dunphy; and a stepson, Daniel Martin. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday by the officers and members of Mystic Lodge No. 65 of Hampden. A funeral service will be held 12 noon, Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Emery Scholarship, 1 Main Road North, Hampden, ME 04444. Following the service friends and family are invited to gather at the Whitcomb-Baker V.F.W. Hall, Canoe Club Road, Hampden, for a continued time of remembrance and refreshments. Interment in the springtime will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.
