TRENTON – Peter Goodwin Rice, 45, of Trenton, died April 14, 2006, after a long illness. Born June 3, 1960, in Syracuse, N.Y., son of Andrew E. and Peggy (Goodwin) Rice. He lived most of his life in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. He visited the Downeast area during several summers in the 1970’s and 80’s and moved to Maine in 1991. Peter overcame debilitating psychological problems as a child to become more than functional as an adult. He often helped friends and associates with the same therapeutic techniques that had saved his life. He was brilliant and funny and made a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be missed. Peter is survived by his loving brother, William R. Rice of Trenton; his father, of Cabin, John, Md.; his cousin, John G. Devaney of Nantucket, Mass.; and special friends, Evelyn Foster and Donna Greene, both of Ellsworth and Vauna Haza of Winterport. He was predeceased by his mother. Peter’s great-aunt was Helen Belknap, who spent summers in East Blue Hill from the 1930’s to the 1950’s and contributed to the expansion of the village church. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cards are welcome at P.O. Box 5222, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
