MAPLETON – Philip A. Ireland, 87, died March 15, 2005, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born Oct. 24, 1917, at Presque Isle, the son of Andrew J. and Elizabeth (Ames) Ireland. He worked many years as an automobile mechanic owning Ireland and Jenkins Garage, and retired from Welding Supply Co., in Presque Isle. Philip repaired watches and tinkered with clocks in his retirement years. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Trinity Lodge No. 130 AF & AM, and a member of the Elks Club in Presque Isle. He is survived by his biological son, Jack Ireland and his wife, Lorie, of Mapleton; a biological daughter, Jill Williams of Saco; two daughters and their husbands, Connie and Barry Delong of Skowhegan, Vickie and Michael Aucoin of Augusta; a brother Forrest Ireland of Presque Isle; six grandchildren, five great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Philip was predeceased by his wife, Annette (Thomas) Ireland in 1985. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Fairmount Cemetery in the spring.
