BRISTOL, Conn. – Philip B. Oakes Sr., 79, died peacefully Friday evening, Oct. 19, 2007, surrounded by his loving and adoring family at home. Born April 22, 1928, in Fort Fairfield, he was the son of the late Lucinda and Alton Oakes. He was a resident of Bristol, Conn., since moving his family here in 1950. Phil was a man of faith and had a zest for life. He retired in 1986 after 30 years with the Superior Electric Co. He was an avid fan of boxing, NASCAR racing and anything related to his offspring. A man full of faith, he was a member of Heritage United Pentecostal Church, Bristol, Conn., and he will be remembered most for his laughter, genuine compassion and for his unrequited love for his family. He freely loved and in return was loved by all. Phil is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Annette (Pelletier) Oakes; his three daughters, a son, and in-laws, Lucinda “Cindy” and David “Corky” Papapietro of Enfield, Conn., Priscilla and Ron Rupaka, Philip “Bo” Oakes, and Debra and David Czarneski, all of Bristol, Conn.; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Daniel and Dini Papapietro, Matthew Papapietro, Nathan and Missy Papapietro, Jason and Lisa Rupaka, Spencer and Linda Rupaka, Tim Oakes, Lis Oakes, Jesse Morin, and Ethan and Bryce Czarneski; six great-grandchildren, Sela, Anna and Alyssa Papapietro, Josie, Lan-aya and Zachary Rupaka; three brothers and two sisters, Alton and Vernie of Bristol, Conn., Ellis of Fort Fairfield, and Signa Christensen and Elva Dixon of New Denmark, Canada; several nieces and nephews. A life worthy of celebration, please join the family for funeral services 11 a.m. Wed-nesday, Oct. 24, at Heritage United Pentecostal Church, 48 Lewis St., Bristol, Conn.
