UNION – Philip D. Hilt Sr., 62, husband of Ruthie H. Hilt, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, after an extended illness, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport. Mr. Hilt was a member of the Union Fire Department for more than 40 years and employed with Maine Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Horsley. Philip is survived by his parents, Donald Sr. and Athelene Hilt of Union; his wife, Ruthie Hilt of Union; his two sons, Glen T. Hilt and his wife, Melissa, of Bath and Philip D. Hilt Jr. and his companion, Suzanne Brown, of Camden; his daughter, Amy Stelzer and her husband, Larry, of Jefferson; seven grandchildren, Alexia Hilt of Friendship, Isabell Hilt of Bath, Mckenzie Hilt, Tanner Hilt, Kristina Brown, all of Camden, Kiya and Eilee Stelzer, both of Jefferson; as well as many brothers and extended family. Family and friends are invited to visit 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland, with a Masonic service 7 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at Thomaston Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Sawyer officiating. Interment will be held after the service at East Union Cemetery.
