TROY – Philip Harris Paton, 83, of Troy, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Inland Hospital in Waterville. He was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Peabody, Mass., the son of the late Andrew Harris, and Mary Torrey (Currier) Paton He was predeceased by his stepmother, Margreta M. Paton; and his brother Andrew C. Paton. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian O. Paton; three sons, John and wife, Priscilla, of Presque Isle, Stanley and wife, Judith, of Waldoboro, Peter and his wife, Joyce Benson, of Troy; his two daughters, Priscilla and her husband, David Anderson of Granville, Ohio, Mary Ella and her husband, Richard Jones, of Poland; his sister, Ella Paton Bassett and husband, Samuel, of Annapolis, Md.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Philip graduated from Melrose High School in Melrose, Mass., Class of 1939. He attended Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts in 1941. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Bernardston, Mass., before moving to Troy, and owning and operated another dairy farm in 1955. He also had a Real Estate business from 1959 to 1988. He was always interested in community affairs and served on the SAD No. 3 school board for three terms and as a selectman of Troy for 19 years. In 1980, he was appointed by the former Gov. Brennan as a member of the Forest Land Valuation Advisory Council. He was also a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge in Northfield, Mass., for 50 years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Troy Union Church, Bangor Road, Troy, with Pastor Chong Choi, officiating.
